The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has come up with a new general multipurpose card with excellent features including the option for payment for all types of social and financial services.

The card, according to NIMC, will assist holders in solving complex issues such as physical identification, enabling them to prove their identity and access government and private social services.

The management said the initiative was part of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration's renewed hope agender in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System.

The card was designed and powered by a national domestic card provider, AfriGO. With it, Nigerians have the opportunity to be holders of a multipurpose National ID Card that can serve many purposes, such as identity verification, payments, and even government social services.

How To Apply For NIMC’s Multipurpose ID Card In 5 Simple Steps

1. Visit your bank or any bank of your choice and demand the payment card superimposed on your identity.

2. You will be asked to provide your national identity number (NIN) for age verification and to ensure you comply with the security standards.

3. The bank will forward the NIN to NIMC to collect relevant authorized data as displayed in your identity information.

4. The bank then uses the verified identity data to securely prepare the standard Europay, Mastercard, and Visa (EMV) data for the card before getting it personalized and printed out by a third-party service.

5. After the card is ready, it will be issued to the person who requested it.

What Not To Do With The New NIMC Card

1. Holders are advised not to issue photocopies or scanned images of the new card that bear sensitive data and payment details to unauthorized persons.

2. NIMC said while the user's NIN or BVN details are not visible on the card, they can be obtained by scanning the QR code at the back of the card.

3. The commission also noted that only citizens with a National Identity Number (NIN) can request the new card.
